The Kids Club is open kids 6 years and younger. The goal of the club is to help kids establish a healthy lifestyle from a very young age and improve reading literacy.

​

Club activities will take place after-school hours, on weekends and school holidays. There will be one workshop day each month where both the parents/guardians and kids will meet with a healthcare, education professional etc. to discuss the monthly themes. Examples of themes include: annual check-up, dental hygiene, and social & emotional wellness.

Our Experts

Muslimah 'Ali, PhD
(Active Body, Happy Brain)

Dr. Muslimah 'Ali, PhD, The Fitness Doc, is a health and fitness expert, group fitness instructor, run coach, community health and science educator. She earned her Ph.D. in Anatomy with a concentration in Neuroscience at Howard University in 2009. 

 

Combining her educational training and passion for health and fitness, in 2012, Dr. 'Ali founded "Fit and Healthy You with Dr. 'Ali", a healthy lifestyle platform. Through Fit and Healthy You (FNHY), Dr. ‘Ali offers engaging health literacy programming and interactive fitness workouts through classes, workshops, health fairs, and demonstrations. She facilitates healthy weight loss through in-person group fitness training, as well as virtual group fitness challenges.

 

An avid runner and triathlete; Dr. 'Ali has trained over 200 women nationwide to safely complete races from 5K to marathons. As a community health advocate Dr. 'Ali works with hospitals, universities, and multi-care facilities to deliver evidence based health seminars on healthy eating, active living, and chronic disease management. The Fitness Doc delivers expert health, fitness, and nutrition advice nationwide through seminars, published articles, blog posts, and social media.

 

A science educator at heart, Dr. Muslimah is a homeschooling mom of 4 and resides in Baltimore County with her husband and family.

Walida Mukhtar, LMSW
(My Feelings ... managing emotions)

Ms. Walida Mukhtar is a licensed master social worker in the state of Maryland. She completed her undergraduate degree at Morgan State University, her graduate degree at George Mason University, and is currently under supervision for her LCSW-C. Her education and career path has always focused on her passion for working with children, couples, and families. Ms. Mukhtar has extensive work experience in school-based counseling, community mental health, substance abuse, and trauma informed care.


Currently Ms. Mukhtar serves as a School Social Worker at Al-Huda School (College Park, MD) and as a Mental Health Counselor with the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in Fairfax County. Ms. Mukhtar believes that change transpires when people are given the guidance they need to draw on their own strengths and realize their potential to live satisfying and happy lives.


Ms. Mukhtar lives in Fairfax, VA with her husband and three children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and attending her children’s activities.

Qadira Ali Huff, MD, MPH, FAAP, DipABLM
(Eat Your Fruits & Veggies)

Dr. Qadira Ali Huff is a board-certified pediatrician, certified lifestyle medicine physician, plant-based advocate, and mom. Dr. Huff practices as a primary care pediatrician in Washington, DC. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (MD) and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on food systems, equity, and health disparities. Dr. Huff completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s National Hospital with a focus on underserved
populations and health disparities. She is certified in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell and the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. Passionate about the power of lifestyle habits to transform health, Dr. Huff founded Sprouting Wellness to coach families from information to implementation of healthful lifestyle habits, including plant-based nutrition, movement and mindfulness.

 

Dr. Huff loves helping children and communities learn how to get and stay healthy! She is an active member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, a chapter leader of Walk With A Doc, and a member of the Prince George's County Food Equity Council in Maryland. Dr. Huff lives in Maryland with her husband and two daughters. In her free time, she loves finding new delicious plant-based foods while traveling, cooking new healthy recipes, and riding the Peloton.

Joke Alesh, DMD, MPH
(Healthy Teeth Healthy Gum)

Dr. Joke Alesh was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island where she grew up in a tight knit Nigerian Muslim community. She attended Providence public schools and is a proud alumnus of Classical High school. Dr. Alesh graduated with a BA from Tufts University in 2011 where she triple majored in Child Development, Community Health, and Biomedical Engineering. She graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2015 and completed her Master’s in Public Health from Tufts Medical school a year later.

Dr. Alesh currently practices as a general dentist at a community health center in rural Rhode Island and a private practice in Riverside, RI. Her dental interests include improving access to oral healthcare for underserved populations and increasing recruitment and retention of students underrepresented in dentistry. When she’s not practicing dentistry she enjoys spending time with her family, trying to keep up with her toddler, crafting projects, and coordinating events.

Abisola Rufai-Abass, DPT, PT
(People with Different Abilities)

Dr. Abisola Rufai-Abass is a Pediatric Physical Therapist specialized in treating children with special needs. She is a board certified therapist in the DC metropolitan area (DC, MD, VA) treating children as young as three weeks old to adults over 105 years. Dr. Abby, as she is fondly referred to, completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, her Master’s degree from Howard University, and her Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy from Alabama State University. She has worked in Acute Rehabilitation, Outpatient, and Early Intervention settings and currently serves the pediatric population in a school based environment, working with a range of diagnoses including developmental disorders, cerebral palsy, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Dr. Abby is in the process of obtaining an independent practice to service individuals in the community. Her passion includes servicing children with disabilities, fostering youth development, and supporting the Ansar Ud Deen Islamic Society of Washington, DC Masjid as a Youth Coordinator. She is a wife, mom, and avid runner!

Tolu Onigbanjo Bello Oyeledun, MD
(Child Wellness Visit)

Dr. Tolu Onigbanjo Bello Oyeledun is a board-certified pediatrician. She completed her undergraduate degree at Princeton University, her medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine before, and her pediatric residency training at Columbia University NY Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.  She is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at University of Maryland where she serves as a general pediatrician and the medical director of the pediatric outpatient practice. She is passionate about pediatric health and educating the next generation of learners.

 

Dr. Bello Oyeledun lives in Columbia, MD with her husband and two children.  She enjoys reading, exercising, and hanging out with her kids.
