March marks Women’s History Month — a time to honor the women who have challenged systems, expanded access to care, and built pathways for healthier communities. This year’s theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” reminds us that sustainable progress doesn’t happen overnight. It’s created through courage, collaboration, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to equity.
Throughout this month on our Instagram page, we are spotlighting women whose work spans medicine, public health, policy, and humanitarian care — leaders like Dr. Joia Crear-Perry, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, Dr. Sultana Afdhal, Dr. Vanessa Gamble, and more. Each of these women represents a different approach to change: advancing birth equity, addressing childhood trauma, strengthening global health systems, and confronting historical injustices in medicine. Together, their stories reflect a powerful truth: when women lead, communities thrive.
At The Aafiyah Project, we believe women’s health is foundational to sustainable futures. Healthy women raise healthy families. Supported mothers build resilient communities. Equitable care creates generational impact.
Our work centers culturally responsive wellness initiatives, community education, and access to care for women who are too often overlooked by traditional systems. From hosting #SisterStrolls Sundays, our monthly trail walks, to creating safe spaces for pregnant women at the SisterCare Village, The Aafiyah Project exists to ensure women feel seen, supported, and empowered to prioritize their well-being.
Honoring women’s leadership also means taking action!
That is why this Women’s History Month, we are inviting you to support our Ansar al-Nisa Fundraiser — Helpers of the Women. Rooted in compassion and community care, Ansar al-Nisa provides direct support to women facing financial hardship by helping them meet essential needs such as groceries, household items, and emergency assistance. Through your zakat and sadaqah, this initiative uplifts women with dignity while strengthening the families and communities around them.
Women have always been at the forefront of healing, organizing, and transformation. This month, we celebrate their legacy and commit to continuing their work.
