The Aafiyah Project, in partnership with The Rahmah Foundation, invites you to the milestone gathering of 2025 — the Women’s Health & Wellness Conference. This two-day conference is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and empowering women to lead healthier, stronger, and more connected lives.

Rooted in a holistic approach, the conference explores the many dimensions of women’s wellness including: spiritual, physical, mental, social-emotional, financial, and reproductive - all through the lens of faith, resilience, and advocacy.

The Women’s Health & Wellness Conference is a signature milestone gathering of The Aafiyah Project and valued community partners who share our commitment to women’s health and empowerment. More than a conference, it is a movement; a vibrant space where women come together to learn, heal, and grow. Each year, the conference will serve as a transformative platform designed to educate, inspire, and empower women to embrace holistic wellness and cultivate healthier, stronger, and more connected lives.

At the heart of this year’s theme, “Legacy of Health & Wellness: Empowering Women in Faith & Community,” is the vision of uplifting women as catalysts of wellness for their families and communities.

Dr. Rania Awaad is a Stanford University Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, a practicing psychiatrist, and the Director of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Islamic Psychology Lab. She is a nationally recognized leader in Muslim mental health, a co-founder of the nonprofit Maristan, and the Director of The Rahmah Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to educating and mentoring Muslim women and girls through traditional Islamic knowledge. As both a physician and an Islamic scholar, she integrates Islamic and medical sciences to provide culturally and spiritually congruent mental health care and education for Muslim communities.

Maristan: Co-founder of the nonprofit reviving Islamic traditions of holistic healing through culturally appropriate clinical care and education.

The Rahmah Foundation: As Co-founder and President of the Board, Dr. Rania oversees the mentorship program for girls providing spiritual support for teachers and leads the weekly halaqah for women and plays an integral role in conferences that serve the holistic education of girls and women.  

Muslim Mental Health: Established the first Muslim Mental Health Community Advisory Board and multiple clinics addressing the needs of Muslim Americans. 

Islamic Scholarship: Holds traditional certifications (ijaza) in Qur’an recitation, Shafi’i jurisprudence, and other Islamic sciences, having begun her studies in Damascus, Syria, at age 14. 

Author & Speaker: Published author and nationally recognized speaker, teacher, and researcher at the intersection of Islamic and medical sciences.

Shaykha Ieasha Prime is an Islamically-trained educator, activist, and public speaker who studied in Cairo, Egypt, and at Dar al-Zahra in Yemen. A revert to Islam over 20 years ago, she focuses on empowering Muslim women by combining Islamic studies, activism, and community building. She is the Executive Director of the Yan Taro Project in Gambia and a co-founder of Barakah INC, an organization dedicated to training Muslim women in traditional Islamic sciences.  

Key Contributions & Affiliations
Sisterhood in Action: As a young woman, Shaykha Ieasha founded this organization to educate Muslim women about their faith and rights. 
 
Not Without My Hijab: Co-founder of this movement to support Muslim women. 
 
Sisters Preparing for Ramadan: Founder of online platform to support Muslim women. 

Yan Taro Project: Executive Director of the Gambian charitable organization which provides 21st-century education, orphan care, and solar-powered water systems to communities. 

Islamic Scholarship: Studied sacred knowledge in Cairo and Yemen at Dar al-Zahra, where she trained in Qur’anic sciences, Islamic jurisprudence, and spirituality under renowned scholars. Her work continues to bridge the gap between traditional Islamic learning and contemporary issues facing Muslim communities today.

Author & Speaker: A sought-after national and international speaker on Islam, women’s empowerment, and spiritual development. Her talks and writings highlight the lived experiences of Muslim women and the relevance of Islamic knowledge in addressing today’s challenges.

Dr. Muneera Fontaine is a mother, seasoned educator, certified birth and postpartum doula, and holistic women’s health practitioner. In her educator role, she has a Doctorate in Special Education and over 20 years of experience, she has guided families, educators, and communities in early intervention and developmental support. Through her practice, Peaceful Earth, Graceful Birth she holds multiple certifications as a birth and postpartum doula, and across multiple womb healing modalities. Most importantly, she has been honored to sit at the feet of elder midwives and birth workers from around the world, who have shared their knowledge with her. Her work bridges education, maternal health, and holistic wellness, empowering women to care for their bodies, minds, and souls across the lifespan.

: Dr. Fontaine’s mission is to bridge the worlds of education, women’s health, and holistic wellness. She advocates for women to view health not just in terms of anatomy, but as an integration of mind, body, and spirit. Her work especially focuses on womb health, reproductive literacy, and the often-overlooked postpartum period. Through community outreach, culturally responsive practices, and educational initiatives, she helps women reclaim authority over their bodies and birth experiences. 

Special Education & Early Intervention: Served families and communities by coaching and supporting families of children with developmental challenges, especially from birth through early childhood through her doctoral training and years in the field of education.

Islamic Scholarship: Deeply rooted in faith, Dr. Muneera integrates her professional expertise with an Islamic - and more broadly faith-centered - approach to wellness. She supports Muslim women in aligning physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, offering guidance that honors religious values while promoting informed self-care. Her holistic vision sees the body as a trust (amanah) and health as part of spiritual stewardship.

Author & Speaker: Dr. Muneera is a sought-after speaker and educator on topics spanning women’s health, maternal care, and holistic wellness. She shares her insights through workshops, conferences, community events, and online platforms, using personal storytelling, clinical knowledge, and spiritually grounded frameworks to engage and empower audiences. Her voice encourages women to embrace their health journey with confidence, curiosity, and dignity.
